This sweet and tangy homemade meatloaf sauce is a game-changer! Easy to make with pantry staples, it’s perfect for elevating your meatloaf.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 meatloaf (approximately 4-6 servings) 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon Coles Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

Microwave method

  1. In a large glass measuring cup, combine all the ingredients. Whisk until completely smooth.
  2. Give it a quick taste test! If you prefer a little more sweetness or salt, adjust as needed.
  3. Heat the mixture in the microwave on high, stirring every 30 seconds. This helps the sugar dissolve completely and the sauce thicken slightly.
  4. Once it’s hot and glossy, let it cool for a minute or two. It’ll thicken a bit more as it cools.

Stovetop method

  1. Add all the ingredients to a medium saucepan. Whisk together until smooth.
  2. Taste the sauce—don’t skip this step! Adjust the seasoning to your liking.
  3. Heat over medium-high heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning. You’ll know it’s ready when the sugar has dissolved and the sauce is hot and shiny.
  4. Let it cool slightly before brushing it over your meatloaf.

Notes

Presentation matters, especially when you’ve spent time making your meal! After brushing the sauce over your meatloaf, save a little extra to drizzle over the slices when serving. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives for a pop of color. Serve alongside mashed potatoes and steamed green beans for a classic pairing, or mix it up with roasted sweet potatoes and a crisp side salad.
