Ingredients
- ½ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon Coles Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
Microwave method
- In a large glass measuring cup, combine all the ingredients. Whisk until completely smooth.
- Give it a quick taste test! If you prefer a little more sweetness or salt, adjust as needed.
- Heat the mixture in the microwave on high, stirring every 30 seconds. This helps the sugar dissolve completely and the sauce thicken slightly.
- Once it’s hot and glossy, let it cool for a minute or two. It’ll thicken a bit more as it cools.
Stovetop method
- Add all the ingredients to a medium saucepan. Whisk together until smooth.
- Taste the sauce—don’t skip this step! Adjust the seasoning to your liking.
- Heat over medium-high heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning. You’ll know it’s ready when the sugar has dissolved and the sauce is hot and shiny.
- Let it cool slightly before brushing it over your meatloaf.
Notes
Presentation matters, especially when you’ve spent time making your meal! After brushing the sauce over your meatloaf, save a little extra to drizzle over the slices when serving. Garnish with fresh parsley or chives for a pop of color. Serve alongside mashed potatoes and steamed green beans for a classic pairing, or mix it up with roasted sweet potatoes and a crisp side salad.
