Enjoy these easy, crispy baked sausage and cheese mini wontons for the perfect snack or party appetizer. Ready in just 30 minutes!

  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 24 wontons 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 pound (225g) ground sausage – Choose your favorite sausage, whether it’s spicy, mild, or flavored with herbs.
  • 1 cup (120g) shredded cheddar cheese – Adds that gooey, melted goodness inside each wonton.
  • 1/4 cup (30g) finely chopped green onions – For a subtle fresh flavor that pairs well with the sausage.
  • 1/4 cup (20g) grated Parmesan cheese – Adds a slightly nutty and salty note to complement the cheddar.
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper – To season and balance the flavors.
  • 24 wonton wrappers – Thin sheets of dough that will crisp up beautifully in the oven.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or melted butter – Used to brush the wontons and ensure they bake to a golden crisp.

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven
Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready when the wontons are assembled.

2. Cook the Sausage
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the 1/2 pound of ground sausage until it’s browned and fully cooked, about 6-8 minutes. Once cooked, drain any excess fat and set the sausage aside to cool slightly.

3. Prepare the Filling
In a medium-sized bowl, combine the cooked sausage with 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, 1/4 cup of chopped green onions, 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix well until the ingredients are evenly combined.

4. Assemble the Wontons
Lay a wonton wrapper on a clean, flat surface. Spoon about a teaspoon of the sausage and cheese mixture into the center of the wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wonton with a little water using your finger, and then fold it into a triangle. Press the edges firmly to seal.

5. Arrange on Baking Sheet
Place the filled wontons on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure to leave a little space between each wonton to ensure they bake evenly.

6. Brush with Oil or Butter
Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the tops of the wontons with olive oil or melted butter to help them crisp up beautifully in the oven.

7. Bake
Bake the wontons in your preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them during the last few minutes to prevent over-browning.

Notes

Serving and Presentation Tips

For the best presentation, serve these wontons on a platter with a dipping sauce like sweet chili sauce or soy sauce on the side. You can arrange the wontons in neat rows or in a circular pattern around a small bowl of dipping sauce for an elegant touch.
